A type of hard, durable wood from Australian trees of the genus Xanthorrhoea, formerly used for making tool handles and other wooden goods.

From Greek 'akron' (summit) and 'eidos' (form), referring to the plant's tall flower spikes. The name was applied to the wood by European botanists in the 18th century.
