Achiote

A reddish-orange spice made from the seeds of the annatto plant, used in cooking and food coloring.

From Nahuatl (Aztec language) 'achiotl'. Spanish conquistadors adopted this word from indigenous Mesoamerican peoples who used the plant for centuries before European contact.
