Inflammation of the adenoids, often caused by infection and resulting in symptoms like sore throat, stuffy nose, or difficulty swallowing.

From adenoid (Greek adeno- 'gland' + -oid 'resembling') + -itis (Greek suffix meaning 'inflammation of'). Medical terminology standardized in the 19th century.
