Advent

/ˈædvɛnt/ noun

The arrival or beginning of something important, such as a new technology, era, or event. In Christian tradition, it also refers to the period before Christmas that celebrates the coming of Jesus.

From Latin *adventus* meaning “arrival,” from *advenire* “to come to, to arrive,” built from *ad-* “to” and *venire* “to come.” It entered English through church Latin and Old French.
