A member of a Christian denomination that emphasizes the imminent Second Coming (advent) of Jesus Christ. Particularly associated with Seventh-day Adventists.

From Latin adventus meaning 'arrival, coming', particularly referring to Christ's coming. The religious movement emerged in 19th century America, led by William Miller who predicted Christ's return in 1844. When this didn't occur (the 'Great Disappointment'), various Adventist denominations formed.
