Aerosolization

The process of converting a liquid or solid substance into tiny particles that float in air as a mist or spray.

From 'aerosol' (from 'aero-' and Latin 'sol' meaning solution) plus the suffix '-ization' (process of becoming). This term became common in the mid-20th century with the development of spray technology.
