Against all odds

Despite very low probability of success or extremely difficult circumstances. Used to describe achieving something when the chances of success seemed impossible or highly unlikely.

The phrase combines "against," meaning in opposition to, with "odds," a gambling term from the 16th century referring to the chances or probability of an outcome. The full expression gained popularity in the 20th century, particularly after Phil Collins' 1984 hit song of the same name.
