Ageism

Discrimination or prejudice based on a person's age, typically against older or younger people.

Coined in the 1960s by American physician Robert N. Butler, modeled on 'racism' and 'sexism.' It combines 'age' with the suffix '-ism' (meaning a system of discrimination or belief), emerging as civil rights movements expanded.
