Aggradation

The process of building up or raising the level of land surface through the deposition of sediment, especially by a river.

From Latin 'ad-' (to) and 'gradus' (step, grade), combined with the suffix '-ation'. Coined in geology to describe how rivers and streams raise their beds over time through sediment accumulation.
