Airway

A passage for air, especially in the body (respiratory tract) or a designated route for aircraft. Can refer to both biological and aviation contexts.

Compound of 'air' (Greek 'aer') + 'way' (Old English 'weg'). First used medically in early 1900s for respiratory passages, then adopted by aviation industry in 1920s for flight routes.
