A class or group of extinct legless amphibians from the Carboniferous period; the plural or taxonomic grouping of aistopods.

From Greek 'aisthos' + 'pous' (foot) + Latin taxonomic suffix -a. A scientific classification term for the entire group of primitive legless amphibians.
