Akkadian

/əˈkeɪdiən/ adjective

Relating to ancient Akkad and its empire (c. 2334-2154 BCE), the first multi-ethnic empire in history, or to the Semitic language that became the diplomatic tongue of the ancient Near East.

From 'Akkad,' the capital city founded by Sargon the Great, possibly meaning 'highland' in Sumerian. The term describes both the empire and the language that spread throughout Mesopotamia and became the region's lingua franca.
