Algine

An older or alternative term for algin, the thickening substance extracted from brown seaweed.

A variant form of 'algin' from the early 20th century, before chemical naming conventions became standardized. As scientific terminology evolved, 'algin' became the preferred form, making 'algine' largely obsolete except in older technical texts.
