Alisphenoid

A bone of the skull in vertebrates, particularly prominent in fish and reptiles, located near the sphenoid bone and having wing-like projections.

From 'ala' (Latin 'wing') plus 'sphenoid' (from Greek sphenoeides, 'wedge-shaped'). It's a bone with wing-like (alar) processes extending from the sphenoid region.
