Alkalify

To make something alkaline or convert it into an alkaline substance by adding a base or removing acids.

From 'alkali' (from Arabic al-qali, plant ashes) + Latin suffix '-fy' (to make). The term emerged in chemistry during the 17th-18th centuries as chemists developed ways to describe chemical transformations.
