Alogy

A suffix meaning the study or science of something, as in biology or geology.

From Ancient Greek '-logia' (discourse, study), combining 'lógos' (word, reason) with the suffix '-ia'. This suffix became standardized in scientific nomenclature during the Renaissance when Latin and Greek roots were systematically applied to new academic disciplines.
