Alone

Without other people; by yourself. It can describe being physically by yourself or feeling like you have no one with you.

From Middle English *al one*, literally “all one.” This came from Old English *eall ān*, combining *eall* (“all”) and *ān* (“one”). Over time, the two words fused into the single word “alone.”
