Aloxite

A synthetic abrasive material made from aluminum oxide, used for grinding and polishing.

From 'alumin-' (aluminum) combined with '-oxide' and '-ite' (mineral suffix). Developed in the early 20th century as a trade name for synthetic abrasives.
