Alphabetics

The study of alphabets and their development, or the fundamental principles and methods of teaching reading and writing through letters.

From 'alphabetic' + the suffix '-s' (forming nouns from adjectives, often in technical or academic fields). This term became standardized in educational and linguistic scholarship.
