To walk at a slow, relaxed pace without hurrying, often for pleasure or without a specific destination in mind.

From Old French ambler, from Latin ambulare 'to walk or move about'. The Latin root is also found in 'ambulance' and 'perambulate', all sharing the sense of movement and walking.
