Ambulance

A special vehicle used to take sick or injured people quickly to a hospital. It usually carries medical equipment and trained staff.

From French *ambulance*, originally *hôpital ambulant* (“walking/moving hospital”), from Latin *ambulare* (“to walk, move about”). The word first referred to mobile field hospitals before it narrowed to the vehicle itself.
