Amethyst

A purple or violet gemstone often used in jewelry. It is a type of quartz and can range from light to deep purple.

From Greek *amethystos*, meaning “not drunken,” from *a-* (“not”) and *methystos* (“intoxicated”). The ancient Greeks believed the stone could prevent drunkenness.
