Aminopherase

An enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of an amino group from one molecule to another, also called an aminotransferase.

From amino- + -pherase (transferring, from Latin ferre 'to carry', + -ase enzyme suffix). Emerged in biochemistry as scientists catalogued enzymes involved in amino group metabolism.
