Inflammation of the tonsils (amygdala), commonly called tonsillitis.

From amygdala (almond/tonsil) + -itis (inflammation). The tonsils were named amygdalae because of their almond-like shape. The -itis suffix comes from Greek and became standard in medical terminology by the 18th century.
