Anabases

Plural of anabasis; multiple accounts or instances of military expeditions inland, particularly retreats from enemy territory.

From Greek 'anabasis' (a going up), plural form 'anabases'. The term comes from Xenophon's famous historical account 'Anabasis' of the Greek 10,000's retreat from Persia.
