Anecdysis

/ænɪkˈdɪsɪs/ noun

The molting or shedding of skin, particularly in reptiles and insects, or the inability or failure to molt properly.

From Greek an- (not) combined with ecdysis (Greek ekdysis, 'stripping off' or 'molting' from ekdyein 'to strip off'). The prefix an- inverts the meaning to indicate failure or absence of molting.
