Anergy

In immunology, the inability of immune cells to respond to stimulation; also, a state of extreme physical exhaustion.

From 'an-' (without) combined with Greek 'ergon' (work, energy). Originally from ancient Greek describing lack of energy, it was adopted by immunologists to describe unresponsive immune cells.
