Angiocarp

A type of fruit that develops enclosed within a protective outer covering rather than being exposed or open.

From Greek 'angeion' (vessel/case) + 'karpos' (fruit). This botanical term describes fruits that mature inside a closed structure, a classification system developed as botanists categorized different fruit types in the 1800s.
