A large herbivorous dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous period, famous for its heavily armored body covered with bony plates and a club-like tail.
From Greek 'ankylos' (stiff, fused) + 'sauros' (lizard). Named in 1908 by paleontologist Henry Fairfield Osborn, who recognized that its distinctive fused skeletal structure made it unique among dinosaurs.
