Anonymity

The condition of being anonymous or unidentified. The state of having one's name or identity withheld or unknown.

From Greek anonymia, from anonymos meaning 'nameless' (an- 'without' + onyma 'name'). Entered English in the early 17th century through Latin anonymus. The concept has gained new significance in the digital age where anonymity can be both protective and problematic.
