Anquera

A piece of armor that protects the hip and thigh, or a reinforced skirt of armor worn by medieval knights.

From Old Spanish 'anquera' or possibly from Arabic 'al-kanqara' (the arch). Medieval term that emerged during the era of Moorish-Christian contact in Spain.
