Opposition to the theory of biological evolution or to evolutionary explanations of life's diversity.

From anti- (against) + evolution, from Latin evolvere (to unfold). The term emerged after Darwin's 1859 publication of 'Origin of Species' when resistance to evolutionary theory began.
