Describing policies, laws, or actions designed to oppose, prevent, or break up monopolies and promote market competition.

From antimonopolist + -ic (adjective-forming suffix). This term crystallized in the Progressive Era as antitrust became formalized law, particularly with the Sherman Act (1890) and Clayton Act (1914).
