Antiparticle

/æntiˈpɑrtɪkəl/ noun

In physics, a subatomic particle with the same mass as an ordinary particle but with opposite electrical charge and opposite properties; the antimatter counterpart of a normal particle.

From anti- (opposite) + particle (from Latin particula, small part). The term was coined in the 1930s as physicists discovered these opposite-charge particles through calculations and experiments.
