Something that contrasts with or is the opposite of a type or pattern; in theology, a person or thing prefigured or represented by something earlier.

From anti- (opposite) + type (from Greek typos, impression or model). This theological term developed in Christian biblical interpretation to describe fulfillment of Old Testament foreshadowing.
