Provided with an apanage, which is a piece of land or income given to a family member, usually by a ruler or from an estate.

From apanage (from Old French apanage, meaning 'provision for sustenance'), which derives from Latin panis ('bread'). The suffix -age added to the prefix a- created a term for what sustains or provides for someone, particularly in feudal contexts.
