Aphidicide

A chemical substance or pesticide designed to kill aphids, which are small insects that damage plants.

From 'aphid' (a plant-eating insect, from Greek 'aphis') combined with the Latin suffix '-cide' meaning 'to kill.' The term emerged in the 20th century as agricultural science developed synthetic pesticides to combat these common pests.
