A type of coarse-grained igneous rock containing feldspar and other minerals, found in parts of Scotland.
Named after Appin, a district in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, where this rock type was first identified and studied. The -ite suffix is standard in mineralogy for naming rock and mineral types based on their location or discoverer.
