Aquaculture

The farming and breeding of fish, shellfish, plants, or other aquatic organisms in controlled water environments for food production.

From Latin 'aqua' (water) + English 'culture' (from Latin 'cultura', cultivation). The term was standardized in the 1960s as the practice became industrialized worldwide.
