Araguato

A large South American monkey with a distinctive roaring call, also known as the howler monkey or red howler.

From Tupi 'araguato' (howler), named by indigenous peoples for the animal's most distinctive feature. Early naturalists adopted indigenous names for unfamiliar New World species.
