Separation or abnormal spacing between arterial layers or segments, often related to arterial wall degeneration or rupture.

From 'arteria' (artery) combined with Greek 'diastasis' (separation or standing apart), a pathological term developed to describe arterial wall integrity loss from 19th-century medicine.
