Arteriosclerosis

Hardening and thickening of artery walls, reducing blood flow and increasing blood pressure.

From arterio- (artery) + sclerosis (hardening, from Greek skleros hard). Coined in 19th-century medical terminology. Describes pathological arterial changes.
