Ascophyllum

A genus of brown seaweed or kelp found in the North Atlantic, characterized by air bladders and branching fronds, commonly called rockweed.

From Greek askos (wineskin, bladder, referring to the air sacs) + phyllon (leaf). Named by botanists in the 1800s because the air-filled bladders resemble tiny wineskins helping the plant float.
