Able to be attributed or credited to a particular source, cause, or person.

From Latin 'ascribere' (to assign to, write to), combining 'ad-' (to) and 'scribere' (to write). The suffix '-able' means 'capable of being.' The word originally meant something that could be written down or recorded, then evolved to mean attributable.
