Aspire

To aspire is to strongly hope or aim to achieve something, especially something important in the future.

It comes from Latin *aspirare*, meaning 'to breathe toward' or 'to strive for', from *ad-* 'to' and *spirare* 'to breathe'. The idea shifted from literally breathing toward something to symbolically reaching toward a goal.
