Causing calmness or tranquility; reducing anxiety or emotional disturbance.

From Greek 'ataraxia' (freedom from disturbance), composed of 'a-' (without) and 'tarassein' (to disturb). The adjective form was created by adding the English suffix '-ic' to the Greek root.
