The medical specialty or branch of medicine that treats diseases using vapor or steam baths.

From Greek atmis (vapor) + iatreia (healing, medical treatment), combined with the medical suffix '-ics.' The term emerged in the 19th century when steam therapy was considered a legitimate medical practice.
