Autocephalia

In Eastern Orthodox Christianity, the status or quality of a church that is self-governing and independent from other ecclesiastical authorities.

From Greek auto- (self) + kephale (head). Literally means 'self-headed' and refers to churches that govern themselves without answering to a central authority.
