Awadhi

A language spoken in the Awadh region of northern India, related to Hindi and Urdu, historically spoken at the court of Lucknow.

From 'Awadh' or 'Oudh,' the historical region and kingdom in northern India where this language developed. The region's name possibly derives from Sanskrit 'avisahya' meaning 'unbearable' or from the mythical king Ayodhya.
