Axonal

Relating to or affecting an axon, the long thin part of a nerve cell that transmits electrical signals.

From Greek 'axon' (axle, axis—the analogy being that axons extend like spokes) + '-al' (adjective suffix). The word entered scientific vocabulary in the 19th century as neuroscience developed terminology for cell components.
